damn that singer dude (i feel like i should know his name but i don't, sue me) kind of resembles my dad. god there's so much stuff to love about the problem child movies, so much ridiculous shit and awesome quotes, if you haven't seen these movies since you were young and stupid i would recommend watching them again with your adult brain so you catch all the real funnies.
on a semi-related note (related to the parts about "WHO WANTS RESPONSIBILITY?" in this amazingly corny song), when let down would go on tour we would have a few bullshit stories we would tell people we barely knew just to see their reaction. well, i would tell them to people and everyone else would cringe in embarrassment, for the most part. one of these stories was that we had an uncensored demo of the MXPX song "responsibility" and that the real words to the chorus were (must sing to the tune of the OG song): "RESPONSIBILITY? FUCK THAT! RESPONSIBILITY? MOTHERFUCK THAT! I DON'T WANNA THINK ABOUT IT, IT'S SOME FUCKING FAGGOT BULLSHIT!" see it's supposed to be FUNNIE because MXPX is a christian pop-punk band so the idea of them saying that stuff is so KA-RAZY! i would often find a way to bring this up when we were with some kid we just met, about to stay at his house or something. one time i remember bringing it up in kansas when some kids who opened the show were talking about how their band was going to be opening up for MXPX in the coming months. anytime anyone mentioned MXPX in general, this story was sure to come out - and that happened a lot more than you would probably think (and not just because half of our band were MXPX fans back in the day; i'll let you guess which two but the answers might shock you). this and the jim norton "monster rain" story were two great ways to weird people out that we barely knew.
anyway, at one point on the european tour we were talking about this, and i think a few different times we recited the song in front of our (at the time) 36 year old dutch driver/"tour manager"/overseas label guy/guy who now hates us and probably still wants a lot of money from us. at the end of the tour when he was tallying up the money we owed him and trying to convince us to go to the ATM and take out like, hundreds of dollars and give them to him, at one point the dude was just like (imagine a dutch accent for maximum effect): "LOOK I KNOW YOU ALL LIKE TO SING YOUR LITTLE SONG ABOUT 'RESPONSIBILITY, FUCK THAT' BUT THE TIME HAS COME TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND GIVE ME THE MONEY". he also brought up how i mentioned on like the second day of tour (over a month ago at that point) that drew was good at saving money as evidence that, contrary to what we were saying, we did indeed have the money between us to pay him what we wanted. shit was mad sketchy, i was so out of it and sick i was like "SHOULD I CALL MY PARENTS AND TELL THEM I'M BEING EXTORTED IN THE NETHERLANDS?"
did we ever pay the dude his money? how did we get back to america? these are all boring stories i will find a flimsy excuse to explain to you some other time. i'm not even sure why i just told that story, but i'm probably never going to post the video for "responsibility" so i had to get it out at some point. so there you go!
