canadian public service announcements

when i was a youngster just trying to watch some awesome after-school programming on YTV (the canadian version of nick and the birth place of such great, distinctly canadian shows as "are you afraid of the dark" and "goosebumps") i would often be bombarded with the kind of inane public service announcements that became the trademark of a group called the Concerned Children's Advertisers who were responsible for putting this muck on the air. now, public service advertising, particularly anti-drug advertising, is pretty pointless and idiotic no matter what country you're in (and this is coming from someone who not only doesn't do drugs but who would like the penalty for smoking weed be raised to having your hands amputated because i hate marijuana that much - just kidding. or am i?) but in canada we have a special version of "idiotic". periodically on this blog i will post another work of the children's advertisers, but we'll start off with the mother of them all... "DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS... WHICH ARE GOOD? WHICH ARE BAD?"

AH MAN JUST TRY TO GET THAT CATCHY JINGLE OUT OF YOUR HEAD AHHAHAHAHA GO AHEAD AND TRY IT'S LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE I PROBABLY HEARD THIS SHIT 17 YEARS AGO AND IT'S STILL BOUNCING AROUND IN MY CEREBRUM!

things to watch for -

- the image of the bad drugs, featuring the horrifying bong
- hey that dad looks a lot like my dad did circa '91, only about 50 pounds lighter
- remember when you were little and people tried to convince you that cops were your 'friends'? boy what a bunch of bullshit that turned out to be (and again, this is from someone who doesn't do drugs and thinks the penalty for snorting coke should be death on the guillotine. just kidding - or am i?). check out the dyke-y female cop, she reminds me of the one that came to my school in third grade to yell at me and my friends for tying some bitch to the fence with jump rope during recess and leaving her out there
- the dad pointing at himself at the "ask your dad" part. priceless.
