ORIGINAL PRANKSTA

the offspring are one of those bands that sound absolutely perfect when you're like 12 but don't age very well as the years go by. there was a time in my life when the offspring were my absolute favorite band, i'd listen to them every day and i'm pretty sure i did an eighth grade "favorite song" project on their hit "ALL I WANT" off 'ixnay on the hombre'. anyway when i was in 9th grade "americana" came out and although "the kids aren't alright" was a slammin' jam, the lead-off single "PRETTY FLY FOR A WHITE GUY" was a fucking embarassment and a half. just the other night at work we were listening to WMMR (the soundtrack of warehouses all around the greater philadelphia area) and that song came on and i felt embarassed to have to hear it in front of my 45 year old co-workers. anyway that song set a precendent for the new offspring formula - make joke songs with outdated jokes for adolescent kids to laugh to. "original pranksta" came a few albums later but definitely follows this formula, with the repetition of "YOU CAN DO IT" from that adam sandler movie and lyrics that make less than no sense. anyway we're not really here to talk about the offspring, we're here to talk about ben kornstein's music video for the aforementioned song:
